Refrain of Light and Flame
Orange blooms honey-sweet in morning light,
Shadows slice through rhymes of varying hue,
We cradle shattered mirrors as we run,
Each fragment grows a sun entirely new.
Glass clinks into crystalline sand,
Flowers burst aflame as they pour,
Light brews tart berries on our lips,
Drunk, we fold reflections into sails we steer,
Charting courses to September’s shore.
When late summer curls upon the retina,
All brilliance turns weightless and drifts away,
I hear the jingle in your pocket—
Our stars that collapsed, then rebuilt their sway.
Shadows slice through rhymes of varying hue,
We cradle shattered mirrors as we run,
Each fragment grows a sun entirely new.
Glass clinks into crystalline sand,
Flowers burst aflame as they pour,
Light brews tart berries on our lips,
Drunk, we fold reflections into sails we steer,
Charting courses to September’s shore.
When late summer curls upon the retina,
All brilliance turns weightless and drifts away,
I hear the jingle in your pocket—
Our stars that collapsed, then rebuilt their sway.
